This year, Vienna hosted the 70th edition of Eurovision, which was perhaps the most controversial one yet.

While ostensibly just a showcase for campy pop songs, the the fun does not happen in a vacuum, a fact that organizers recognized in 2022 when they ejected Russia over its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Why then, critics ask, has Israel not likewise been kicked out over its genocide in Gaza and invasion of Lebanon?
